Thanksgiving

Here are a few pictures from this past Thanksgiving in Vernal. My dad did a lot of the cooking and Sean did a lot of the football watching :-)
One of my favorite parts of the trip was when my sister convinced my dad to play the piano. I haven't heard my dad play the piano in over five years, so that was really nice.

What we've been up to...

A lot has happened since my last post, and I am writing this with my tail between my legs, because I know I should be blogging more. I promise to everyone that reads this (probably not many) that I will try to make more of an effort to update.

Last month, Sean and I took an exciting trip with his family to California. We went to Disneyland, of course, visited the beach, and enjoyed Universal Studios. Here are a few pictures from the trip.

When we got home from our trip, my sister, who was house sitting for us, informed us that Rolo hadn't held up very well while we were gone. She had some sort of anxiety attack and had scratched herself so bad that her neck and head bled all week. We had also noticed before we left that she had been losing her hair. She is a dog that normally sheds, but her hair loss this time was extreme. We took her to the vet, and they diagnosed her with hypothyroidism. Since she lost all of her hair on her neck, belly and back legs, we have to put her in a sweater so she stays warm. It is amazing that she still loves us after all the times we have had to take her to the vet. She is on meds now for her new condition and is slowly getting back to normal. We didn't do much for Halloween. Sean went to Wyoming with my dad, where my dad shot a cow elk (our garage and kitchen turned into a butcher shop for a week). I went to Vernal and stayed with my mom while they were out of town. Mom got excited and pulled out all the Halloween stuff and greeted little children with this....Anna competed in the Miss Utah USA pageant. She didn't place, but we all enjoyed watching her strut her stuff in front of hundreds of people. "She's beauty and she's grace..."Other than that, we haven't been up to much. Sean is working hard on school and doing well. I know he hates it but he is really close to being done. Just a few more classes! That basement isn't as far along as I would like, but we are close to being able to lay tile in the bathroom. Just a few more plumbing things to go. Looking forward to Vernal for Thanksgiving and going on a much anticipated cruise over the new year!

Washington, D.C.

I took a trip to Washington, D.C. for work recently. I had never been there and due to work commitments, I only had about four hours to go sightseeing. Here are some pics from the trip. It really was amazing to be there and see all of the amazing monuments and architecture. I can't wait to go back again (I'm thinking about taking Anna when she graduates college!)

Summer Recap

I can't believe I am writing a recap post about summer '09. It almost puts me into a deep depression. Is summer really over? Did we really only go fishing twice, to the cabin once and camping once? Well, since it has been weeks since my last post, I thought I would catch up everyone (or probably just the select few who visit this blog) on our summer adventures.

As you saw in my last couple posts, Sean and I had the best time at Ben Goode's wedding and we had a blast at the cabin.

Since then, I had the pleasure of being a bridesmaid in my friend Rachel's wedding. Rachel was stunning, and I was so thankful that I got to share in her special day. We had so much fun drinking mimosas before the wedding and dancing into the evening. Rachel met her husband James through my cousin, Russ. Russ and James lived together during the college years and Rachel and I spent a lot of time at their house in the Avenues on the weekends :-) They were always so much fun to hang out with, and I am so glad Rachel and James are now husband and wife!!!With Russ at the wedding (along with a couple other roommates, Cody and Moose) the dancing got a little bit out of control. To say they were the centers of attention would not do them justice. I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

Last week, my aunt Laura and my cousins Marianna and Julianna came down for a day visit. We had a blast shopping and having lunch at the cheesecake factory. We spent some time in Old Navy and Julianna (right) informed me that I need to have a baby so I can dress it in all of the baby clothes. She also said she would come down to go to college and live with me so she could take care of the baby. She is so cute, but I hope I am done having kids by the time she goes to college!

Rolo is still around and as spoiled as ever. You know how people say that, in terms of caring for things, if you can take care of a plant, you can take care of a dog, and then maybe you can have a kid? Well, a couple months ago, I took Rolo to the vet and she told me that Rolo was a bit overweight. Seriously? I had to put her on a diet. My dog is on a diet. This cannot be good, and I can't help but ask myself....if my dog is overweight, does that mean my kids will be overweight, too???
Sean has recently started back up with school so that keeps him busy. It does give me a chance to spend time with my good friend Wendy, since her husband also goes to school with Sean. He only has a few more semesters to go. I'm so proud of him. Soon enough he will have his land surveyor's license! I am staying busy with work. We just held USANA's international convention in Salt Lake so that made for a busy week. We are still in the process of working on the basement. It is moving very....very....very...slow. We got a lot done last winter, so I'm hoping the same thing happens this winter.

I have also been able to spend some real quality time with my mom this summer. I don't have any pictures, but it has been such a blessing to be able to travel to Vernal and be with her for the weekends. I love being around her and helping her around the house. I also love when she comes to visit, even though it is usually under unpleasant circumstances. For those who know her condition, you should know that she is doing very well and all of her doctors are pleased with her improvements.
Upcoming events for the Gumms include: a short trip to Washington DC for work, a trip with Sean's family to The Happiest Place on Earth, and then a New Year's cruise with the Kralls and Pizzatos to make up for the canceled cruise from two years ago.

I hope all my friends are doing great! Love you all!

Wyoming

Sean and I took a trip to Kemmerer a few weeks ago to go up to the cabin. We had to much fun and vacations like this always seem to go by too fast. The cabin is by far my favorite vacation spot and I can't want to share it with my kids someday. Here is a picture of the house and the view from the front porch...

An evening visitor...
Broken down...

We also took a day to go fishing on Lake Viva Naughton. It is just about 15 minutes outside of Kemmerer. Sean caught guppies all day and I came away with the big ones! Rolo also enjoyed some swimming. It was so nice to get away where there is no electricity or cell phones. I can't wait to go back. The trip really tuckered out the dog.
